Dear Classmates:
Let’s Celebrate!
That’s right, just four months until our 35th Reunion. On June
7-10, 2007,
we will return to Ithaca for four days of renewing old friendships
and starting
new ones. The planning is well under way, and our Reunion Committee
has
planned an incredible weekend of events. But there are two things
that will
make our reunion even more successful: 1) having you and lots of
your friends
there, and 2) getting your input and help in planning. The best way
to ensure
that your friends are there is to make personal contact with all
of those people
that you would like to see at reunion, and tell them to make a commitment
now
to come back to the Hill. The best way to help in our reunion efforts
is to contact
me by phone, mail, fax, or e-mail and I’ll put you in touch
with the right
people.
What
better way to stay in touch with what is going on in our class
and on
campus than to be an active member of the class. We need your participation
and class membership to ensure the future of the class and all of
the projects
that we have undertaken. By paying your class dues, you support class
programs
and help pay for class mailings. In addition, you help build our
class
treasury, which has enabled the class to fund initiatives such as
our participation
in Cornell’s New Student Reading Project, as well as keep the
price of
future reunions reasonable. All dues payers will receive their own
copy of The
Pickup by Nadine Gordimer, which was just chosen as the
book for the Class of
2011 New Student Reading Project. That’s quite a lot for your
$50 annual dues.
And it’s easier than ever to join. With our new Automatic Dues
Renewal Program,
it only takes a couple of minutes to stay active for years to come.
Here
are the two NEW convenient payment options:
1)
Log
on to to pay electronically with a credit card. Beginning this
year, choosing this option automatically
enrolls you in our Automatic Dues Renewal Program. This means we
will charge your class dues to the same credit card once a year until
you
cancel. With this option, you avoid the hassle of sending
in your form and payment each year. If you wish to stop
the automatic payments at any time, you may cancel by
calling 607-255-3021.
2)
If you do not want to enroll in our Automatic Dues Renewal Program,
simply pay by check. Just return the
enclosed dues card with your check payable to the Cornell
Class of 1972. If you have any questions, call 607-255-3021.
WHAT PROJECTS DOES OUR CLASS SUPPORT?
The class has decided to fund the Visiting Faculty Suite in the Carl
Becker House, the second of five new
residential houses that are part of the new West Campus Residential
Initiative. With your help and financial
support, the suite will be named for our class; we will have an opportunity
to see the suite during
Reunion Weekend, as Becker House will serve as our class headquarters.
Gifts to this fund can be made
using the class dues card or online.
An endowment has been established for the Class of 1972 Scholarship,
which currently provides $6,900
annually to a Cornell student. This year’s recipient is Frederick
Dominguez, Class of 2010. Frederick is
from Baytown, Texas, and is a freshman in the School of Industrial
and Labor Relations. Your continued
gifts to the Class of 1972 Scholarship allows the class to increase
the amount of the annual award in support
of future Cornell students. This contribution can also be made
using the class dues card or online.
Our class has also endowed the Class of 1972 Award for Academic Innovation,
ensuring that the class
will be able to make an award of $10,000 every reunion year to a
professor who demonstrates a significant
innovation in undergraduate education. We have selected Professor
Robert Thorne of the Department
of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences as the third recipient
of the award and we will make the
presentation at the Saturday night dinner at Reunion 2007. Additional
contributions can be made on your dues card or online.
I
want to hear from you whether you are excited about getting involved
in some way, or just tired of all
the mail you get from Cornell. Either way doesn’t matter;
I want to hear from you. Your class officers are
all dedicated to reconnecting our classmates and we need your participation.
